About The Author

Since graduating from Jackson State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Accounting, Natasha earned a Masters of Science degree in Accounting from Texas A&M University. Aside from being an author, Natasha is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Natasha has authored three devotional books. Her first book is The Life Your Spirit Craves (released November 2012), a 30-Day devotional and journal that encourages readers to seek, accept and pursue their God-given assignment. The Life Your Spirit Craves won the Readers’ Choice Award at the Christian Literary Awards November 2013. Her second book, Not Without You: 365 Days in the Lord’s Presence (released March 2014) encourages readers to make devotion a part of their everyday life by seeking God every day. Not Without You has been nominated for the Henri Award. The Henri Award recognizes excellence in Christian literature. The Life Your Spirit Craves for Mommie s is a 52 week devotional for mothers that encourages them to see God at work in their lives through their role as a mother. Natasha has also began a fiction series that focuses on real and relevant issues in today’s society, such as sex, adultery, blended families and more! With a love for God’s people, especially women and children, Natasha channels her passion through writing and participating in SASSy, an organization whose focus is to inspire and encourage women to take second steps and become the person God has called them to be. Each month, women participating in SASSy select a different cause and give our time and resources by volunteering in the community. We have volunteered at women’s shelters, Kids’ Meals, Inc. and have performed random acts of kindness throughout the Houston, TX area.

Natasha resides in Missouri City, TX with her husband, Eddie Frazier, Jr. and their three children, Eden, Ethan, and Emilyn. Her greatest joy and commitment is to her family who she hopes to inspire above all else. One of her many mottos in life is: Faith removes limitations.

About The Book

Rico gambled with his marriage when he cheated on Chloe. Breaking his vows and risking everything for temporary pleasure, he lost his wife’s respect and trust.

Rico returns to God, searching for a quick fix to win Chloe’s heart back, but his heart is the one that is changed. He is a self-proclaimed changed man, willing to go the extra mile to restore his marriage, but he just may be too late.

Has Chloe given up on him? She has forgiven him before, but this is different. "I’m sorry" isn't enough when vows have been shattered. With the law and the Word of the Lord on her side, she finally gathers enough courage to walk away.

But then tragedy strikes. Is it enough to make Chloe stay, or will she start a new chapter in her life?

Rico let out a low whistle as Chloe descended the stairs with her matching camel-colored clutch under her arm. She was beautiful and he made sure she knew it.

“I’m the luckiest man in the world to have you on my arm tonight. You look beautiful, sweetie,” Rico complimented as he took her hand when she descended to the last three steps. When she made it to the bottom, he lifted her hand and brushed her wedding band with his fingers before planting a kiss on her hand.

“Thank you.” Chloe blushed a little and returned the compliment. “You look nice, too.” She noticed that he was wearing her favorite cologne as well, but didn’t make mention of it. Rico placed her hand around his arm and escorted her to the car. Their drive to the Improv was filled with chatter from Rico about what they did on previous anniversaries. She didn’t add much to the conversation, only nodded and smiled mostly. She had to admit that those times were nice, but this one was much different. In her mind was the insurmountable obstacle in front of them.

Rico had purchased their tickets online so they walked straight past the ticket booth to the entrance, where they were greeted by a hostess and shown to their VIP table near the stage. Noting the dim lighting, soft R&B music and the newly renovated facility, Chloe remembered their first date at the Improv, where they saw the comedian Arnez J in standup. They laughed until their stomachs and throats were in pain. She was hoping she would get another whiff of that tonight, although she didn’t know who the comedian was going to be. She just knew that she could use a laugh right about now. And not just any laugh, but a magic laugh that would take away all of the pain that she was feeling and trying so hard to push aside. The type of laughter that would somehow wipe the slate clean for the two of them. She was sure there was no such thing, but she was ready for the magic she hoped the night would bring for her.

She ordered a Caesar salad and he ordered buffalo wings to enjoy before the show started. On cue, the show began when the waitress came to take away their empty plates. They were tickled a little by the warm-up acts but nothing like what she was waiting for. However, she was feeling more relaxed and her body didn’t stiffen as it did earlier when Rico pulled her chair closer to his and put his arm around her.

There were still a few residual laughs from the crowd as the host appeared onstage to announce the headliner for the night—Will the Thrill. Chloe didn’t recognize the comedian’s stage name, so she knew she hadn’t heard any of his jokes before. New material. Great.

Will the Thrill jumped straight into his routine after the round of applause subsided. His first joke was about dating and how he wasn’t ready to commit to his girlfriend by getting married.

“C’mon now men. Y’all know how much extra work it is to hide the side woman when you get married. Gotta put all these codes in your phone, use aliases and lie, lie, lie. Even when you get caught, stick to the lie. Ain’t that right my man?” he joked as he gestured toward Rico.

Her anticipation waned at those jokes. In fact, they weren’t funny at all. Bad choice in her mind. What began to tick her off was that Rico was doubled over in laughter . . . clearly, something he shouldn’t have been laughing at given the situation they were in.

“What in the hell is so funny, Rico?” she sneered, leaning to the side to look up at him wiping tears from his eyes.

“What?” Rico asked, clearly confused.

“So cheating is funny?”

“Sweetie, these are just jokes. C’mon now.”

“I’m glad you think ruining our marriage and our lives is funny. I’m getting out of here!” Chloe scooted away from the table, snatched her purse and walked away with Rico following close behind.

“Looks like someone got caught doing what I just said not to do!” the comedian joked to their retreating backs as they exited the room, causing an uproar in the crowd.

Rico grabbed her hand and she spun around. She yanked her hand back and folded her arms across her chest. The look she gave would have killed him if looks could kill. Infidelity was a sore spot with her and definitely not a laughing matter. Rico couldn’t understand why she took it so seriously. Everyone in the room, except her, knew that those were only jokes. There was no reason to get upset over nothing. But to Chloe it wasn’t nothing; it was the reason her life was turned upside down.

Author Interview with Natasha Frazier

LaToya: Hi Natasha, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

Natasha:  Most of my writing is inspirational. I started writing about ten years ago, sending encouraging devotionals to my circle of friends. It wasn’t until about four years ago that I published my first book, The Life Your Spirit Craves, A 30-Day Devotional and Journal that encourages readers to seek, accept and pursue their God-given purpose. I also enjoy reading inspirational & motivational books. I enjoy Christian fiction and clean romance as well.

Aside from writing, I am also a CPA and have worked in public accounting and the federal government. My husband and I live in the Houston, TX area with our three small children.

LaToya: What are your ambitions for your writing career?

Natasha: I will continue to write whatever God lays upon my heart and eventually I’d like to write my own television series. I think our society is lacking wholesome and encouraging entertainment and I’d like to be one of the people who change that. I also plan to work with my daughter to write a children’s book or two in the next couple of years. We’re really excited about that because she also enjoys reading and writing.

LaToya: Which writers inspire you?

Natasha: Michelle Stimpson and Joel Osteen. Michelle is consistent in her writing to share Godly truths and inspire readers. Joel inspires me because he uses his platform to lift others.  No matter what I write, I want to be the kind of author to consistently point readers back to our Heavenly Father and to think about what they’ve read and determine how it can apply to their daily lives.

LaToya: What are you working on at the minute?

Natasha: I am currently working on Shattered Vows: Love, Lies & Consequences Book III. This book in particular deals with marital infidelity. I am also working on a non-fiction book regarding financial management. It is currently untitled.

LaToya: What genre are your books and why?

Natasha: Devotionals and Christian Fiction. I write in this genre because this is the area where I feel led to write and where I want to make an impact by encouraging readers to be the best they can be.

LaToya: In 10 words or less can you create a quote that describes you and your writing?

Natasha: Inspiring Readers One Page At a Time

LaToya: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?

Natasha: Sanaa Lathan as Raegan and Christian Keyes as Caleb

LaToya: When did you decide to become a writer?

Natasha: I struggled with the idea for a moment in college. At one point, I was going to change my major from Accounting to English but decided against it. I also toyed with the idea again after graduate school. I started my first book in 2009 but allowed a lot of things to get in the way of me being disciplined enough to finish it. In 2011, the idea of writing a book began weighing heavily on my heart again. I prayed about it often and felt like every sermon was consistently pointing me in that direction. One time after studying my bible, I prayed and studied again. That is when I read Joshua 18:3, which says, “Then Joshua asked them, “How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given to you?” Much like the Israelites in the background of that scripture text, I was making excuses and waiting on God to give me the clarity that had already been given to me, when in actuality, He was waiting on me. That is when I decided to put pen to paper.

LaToya: Do you write full-time or part-time?

Natasha: For now, I write part-time.

LaToya: Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?

Natasha: I generally write during nights and weekends, and my lunch break when time permits. I sometimes have time during the day but my preference is the night. For some reason, I seem to be able to concentrate a little better during that time.

LaToya: Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?

Natasha: My goal is one thousand words per day. I also have a goal of spending at least one hour per day writing. In general, I usually meet or exceed my word count within this time frame, but I also end up working for more than an hour as well.

LaToya: Where do your ideas come from?

Natasha: My ideas come from dreams, personal experiences or the needs of others. I have also gotten ideas based off random comments that people have made in conversation. Actually, Shattered Vows is based off something I heard someone say.

LaToya: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?

Natasha: I usually jot down ideas of things that I think must happen in the story, but I don’t work to an outline. I just sit down and type and try to visualize the book as a movie and think, “What would I want to happen next if I were watching this on the big screen?” As far as non-fiction, there is sort of an outline for my devotionals, meaning each page has to have the same elements. I am currently working on my first non-fiction book that is not a devotional and I do have an outline for that.

LaToya: How do you think you’ve evolved creatively?

Natasha: I’m becoming more of a story teller than having the characters talk through the story. I didn’t realize I was doing this until I received all of those red marks back from my editor with the first fiction book, which basically had to be rewritten. My feelings were hurt but it helped me as an author.

LaToya: What is the hardest thing about writing?

Natasha: The editing phase. After I receive the manuscript back from the editor and have to make significant changes and really think about how I want the story to go and incorporate the editor’s suggestions. I often dream about it because I’m thinking about her “red marks” so much. It’s almost as if I’m back in school.

LaToya: What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?

Natasha: My latest book is The Life Your Spirit Craves for Mommies: A 52-Week Devotional and Journal. The hardest thing about writing it was making sure that the personal stories I shared in the book and the spiritual application were relatable to the reader. One of the things I’m working on is keeping my reader in mind while writing, so I constantly asked myself, “How would the reader perceive this?”

LaToya: What is the easiest thing about writing?

Natasha: Just letting the words flow. That first draft is whatever you want it to be; you just need to get the words on paper.

LaToya: How long on average does it take you to write a book?

Natasha: A couple of months, if I’m consistent with spending time writing each day.

LaToya: Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Natasha: I have another series that I’m going to start as soon as I’ve completed Shattered Vows. There is also a non-fiction set of devotionals that I’m working on. So in five years, I should have completed those and have helped my daughter publish her first book. I don’t want to just write more, but definitely grow as an author and be the best that I can be.

LaToya: What advice would you give to your younger self?

Natasha: Spend less time worrying about what others are going to think of your ideas and goals and just do it. You don’t need permission from man when you’ve already been granted permission by God. Go for it girl!

LaToya: Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?

Natasha: Oprah Winfrey. She uses her influence to build up others.

LaToya: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Natasha: First, I would give them the same advice that I would give to my younger self. Second, I would tell them to take a few minutes each day and just sit down and write. It’s not about the time but developing the habit and sharpening the skill. Eventually, you will have an entire book.

Week 15 - Listeners and Doers

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” (James 1:22)

When my kids mess up, I take a moment and explain to them that what they did was wrong and why it was wrong. I always end my speeches with “Do you understand me?” In response, I always receive a “Yes, ma’am.” Whether or not they understand, it doesn’t always show. Often they repeat their actions or do something along the same lines; that says to me that they’re simply going to do what they want to do and suffer the consequences later. This is a terrible line of thinking that seems to follow us into adulthood and interferes with us doing what God’s Word says, even when we know what He requires of us.

In order to develop a character and lifestyle that brings honor to God, we must allow His Word to direct us. We have to decide to live according to His Word, but we cannot do this if we don’t know what it says. So many of us attend weekly services but fail to live a life that is pleasing to God because we only listen to God’s Word. We don’t retain it, and so we don’t put it into practice.

We must get to a place in our relationship with God where we long for His presence, desire to please Him, and choose His ways. Obedience and love are two of God’s most important requirements for His children. We honor God when we obey His holy Word. It is then that we will begin to experience the abundant life that He has promised His children.

Like children, we often want the blessings of God but we don’t want to abide by His Word. This isn’t the way things work, and our disobedience is cause for many delayed blessings. As God’s children, we must wholeheartedly devote ourselves to Him and choose to follow His Word without exception. Choose to move from only listening to the Word of God to learning and living it.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I give praise to Your holy name. Help me to receive, accept, learn, and apply Your Word to my life in all circumstances. Help me to show my love for You by being obedient. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
