Book Spotlight: Disloyal by TN Jones

***SNEAK PEEK~~LATRICE***

As my mind went back to our first night encounter, there was a knock at my door. I tied my housecoat and informed the individual at my door that I would be there in a moment. When I opened my front door, I didn’t see anyone, but I saw an envelope with my name on it. I picked it up and tore it open. An ultrasound picture was inside the envelope; the name was blacked out. My mouth dropped open and tears fell down my face. Either someone was being an asshole by bringing up the baby I miscarried for JP, or it was someone that JP gotten pregnant. Either way, the picture was too much for me. I hurried to my cell phone to call his ass. As I was getting ready to press the send button, a call came through, and I answered it.
“Hello,” I spoke aggressively.
“Is this Latrice?” a female voice asked.
“Yes, it is. Who is asking?” I replied in a white girl voice, with my hands on my hips.
“That’s not important. What’s important is the message you received today on your doorstep,” the female voice laughed.
“Don’t be coming by my house, dropping off a damn thing. That shit wasn’t cute. If you want to address me, do it in a womanly manner!” I screamed, before hanging up the phone. The phone rang again, and I sent the caller to voicemail. Soon after, the female sent me a text message from the same number she called from.
954-555-0990: You ain’t the only one he’s gotten pregnant. This is my fourth time being pregnant for him. I like how cute y’all be at your nana’s house. I’m forever gonna be in his life. Tell my baby daddy I said hello, and I can’t wait to see him. The jokes on you, lil silly trick!

***SNEAK PEEK~~JANICE***

“You need to leave Domic alone, before you end up like me or worse,” he said coarsely, as he walked off. I walked behind him and pulled his arm, so that he would be facing me.

“What does that mean, John?” I asked quietly.

“Let’s just say, your man isn’t who he says he is. You’d better get out of that relationship while you still can. Are you and Nicolette still best friends? If so, tell her I said hey and I miss her. Are you still working as a DEA agent with Domic? Is Agent Larson still y’all boss? Tell everyone I said hello. Make sure you keep in touch, okay? It was nice chatting with you, Janice,” he chuckled as he walked away.

His actions and statements blew my mind. I wonder why in the hell he was asking me all those questions. As I walked to the deli side of the grocery store, I was dumbfounded as I rehashed the entire conversation that took place between John and me. I was even more eager to learn why he was sent to prison. I wanted to know what he knew.

***SNEAK PEEK~~NICOLETTE***

I was shaking badly when I hung up the phone. I had to calm my nerves; therefore, I walked to the liquor cabinet by my desk and pulled out the bottle of Jack Daniels; taking a shot of Henn wasn’t going to do anything for me at this point. I popped the top and took a long swig. I hope like hell Janice didn’t start conversing with John on a regular basis, because he was not the type of person to deal with. As I took another swig of Jack D, my business phone started ringing. I put on my professional voice and answered the phone.

“House of Beauty, Nicolette speaking,” I said happily into the phone.

“Ohhh, Ms. Nicolette. How are you, darling? How’s the baby? Oh yeah, you didn’t have it!” a cold, creepy voice pronounced slowly, while laughing.

“Who is this?” I asked.

“No need to worry about that. Do you have something that you need to give me or tell your closest friend about?” the cold voice stated sternly.

“No, I do not. John, don’t you dare open your fucking mouth about shit!” I exclaimed.

“John? Damn, how many people did you fuck over, Nicolette? I think you have a lot to tell, but you are frightened to do so. Don’t worry. I am going to take pride in destroying you, your best friend, your little boyfriend, Dennis, and anyone else that gets in the way. All your secrets are going to come out, and you can’t do anything about it. In due time…Nicolette…in due time. The funny thing is that you are racking your brain, trying to figure out who I am. You will never get the answer right, because you have fucked over so many people, especially your best friend, Janice. Oh, how is she, by the way?” the cold voice retorted.

I didn’t waste any time hanging up the phone. I stared at the wall, while I thought about who would be out for me. I had no idea who in the fuck it could be, but I knew one thing, they were going to have a hellava time trying to destroy me. I had to get my ducks in a row, because shit got real after the caller said, all your secrets are going to come out.
***SNEAK PEEK~~DOMIC***

That lil mutherfucker was itching for me to fuck her up. I can’t deal with her shit at times. All I wanted was some head, but the best dick sucker in town was playing games with me, and I didn’t like that one bit. As I turned on my Xbox 360, my personal cell phone started ringing. I hopped on it because I knew that was my lil head giver, calling me back to tell me to come over. When I picked up my phone, I didn’t recognize the number, but I answered anyways.

“Yeah,” I said boldly.
“I’m coming for you with open arms…Joe,” the cold voice said.
“You got the wrong number,” I said nonchalantly.
“I got the right number, my friend. I bet your beautiful girlfriend doesn’t know who you really are,” the cold voice chuckled.

“Who the fuck are you?” I spat in the phone, but low enough that Janice couldn’t hear me.

“I’m your worst fucking nightmare!” the cold voice yelled in the phone, before hanging up.
I called the number back repeatedly, only to listen to a recording saying that the voicemail to the phone wasn’t setup. I instantly became pissed, because I wanted to know who in the fuck was calling my phone with some shit. I grabbed my work phone and checked it to make sure that no one texted or called it. To my surprise, no activity had taken place on my phone. Within moments of me placing both phones on the entertainment center, my laptop dinged, indicating I had a message. I walked over to my laptop, clicked on my Gmail account, and opened the message. As I looked at the thirty-six photos, I became weak at the knees. I read the messages and became instantly upset. You’re a pussy pie punk. You think you are living in an untouchable world? I am going to have fun destroying YOU, NICOLETTE, AND JANICE. I BET JANICE DOESN’T KNOW ANY OF THIS, NOW DOES SHE?

Meet Author TN Jones

I’m thirty years old; I fell in love with writing at an early age. I am a mother to a beautiful girl, Ja’Calin. I read when I’m not working on my own projects. Ole Alabama is where I reside. Traveling, swimming, cooking/baking, spending time with family/friends and enjoying motherhood are a blessing for me. I’m a college graduate from University of Phoenix. I’m easy to get along with, but I hate people that try to get over on me. In the near future, I want to start a movement where authors start donating money to rare diseases.
I don’t have a favorite genre; I read all types except Christian fiction. I’ve read books from James Patterson, Wahida Clark, Kiki Swanson, De’Nesha Diamond, Brenda Jackson, and etc. I was tired of losing jobs due to my illnesses of Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis; I have been suffering with HS since I was fifteen years old; I was born with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, but the signs and symptoms didn’t show until I was seventeen. After the loss of several jobs, I decided that maybe writing novels would be a better fit for me and my daughter. Plus, the idea of having people reading my work across the world was a great thing for us. I would bring awareness to different diseases throughout my fictional world. I read to ease my mind, body, and soul. Reading aids me in escaping my own life for a brief second; I’m able to find peace while reading.

Blessed

From the day you were born,
you were a blessing.
You were a comfort and
inspiration to those around you.
You suffered enormous tragedies
and faced many challenges.
You suffered a great deal
and life as you saw it was over.
Each day seemed like an eternity—
every moment seemed everlasting.
You went in with your eyes closed,
but came out with them wide open.
You fell to your knees and asked,
why, why me?
Not realizing that your trials
would prepare you for your future.
Not knowing you were a blessed child
and you were called for a purpose.
Many obstacles came your way
and the enemy tried to bring you down.
He never wanted you to succeed,
let alone see the light of day.
Your cries reached up to God.
He said, You are my child.
No matter where you go,
I will be with you.
You are blessed.
Blessed you shall be,
and blessed you shall continue to be;
not only to yourself, but to others.

Author Interview with Taneisha Grace-LaGrant

LaToya: Hi Taneisha, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
Taneisha: Hi and thank you for this opportunity. Well first I am Taneisha LaGrant, I came from a single parent home but my mom was my first inspiration for writing when I read her poem “Black on Black Crime.” I used to read all of her poetry. I was born in Florida but I lived in North Carolina for quite some time also. Now with the military, I have traveled a little. My husband enjoys traveling and hopefully our two little girls will too.

LaToya: What are your ambitions for your writing career?
Taneisha: I currently have my sights set on getting my stage plays produced. Eventually I want to publish my first romance novel and thriller. These are current projects that I am working on in my free time. Ultimately I want to be a New York Times Bestselling author.

LaToya: Which writers inspire you?
Taneisha:  Currently I am inspired by Brenda Jackson, David E. Talbert, Je’Caryous Johnson, N’Tyse, and so many more. The more I read, the more inspiration I find especially with being able to connect to some of the writers and have them give me feedback or advice.

LaToya: What are you working on at the minute?
Taneisha: Currently between writing papers for school I am working on my first Christian romance called “The First Time” which the name may be subject to change. Then there is getting a staged reading of my play “Finding God” and finally my thriller which doesn’t have a name but the main characters’ name is Detective Hook.

LaToya: What genre are your books and why?
Taneisha: I write romance and thrillers. I have always loved talking about love but at the same time growing up I wanted to go into law. I was really big in reading psychological thrillers growing up and only recently branched out into romance novels.

LaToya: In 10 words or less can you create a quote that describes you and your writing? Taneisha: Passionate about writing and always evolving as life changes.

LaToya: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
Taneisha: Hmm, that’s a tough one. I know who I could see in my play but for my book, maybe Ebony Wilson who is up and coming but I’ve worked with her before. She’d be great for Detective Hook. The verdict is still out on who would be Kayla in “The First Time.”

LaToya: When did you decide to become a writer?
Taneisha: I decided to become a writer around the age of 9, although I wouldn’t actually publish until much later.

LaToya: Do you write full-time or part-time?
Taneisha: I write part-time but my goal is to write full-time.
LaToya: Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
Taneisha: I wish I could say that my day is structured but with a six month old and nursing, my set time is off for now. Early in the morning or late at night usually work best though.

LaToya: Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?
Taneisha: No, only when I have time off from school which currently is a one week break between classes.

LaToya: Where do your ideas come from?
Taneisha: Life. I get inspired by things I see but a lot of what is pushing me forward is reflecting over what has happened to me in my own life or things that I have wanted or think would be cool to write about.

LaToya: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
Taneisha: I do a little of both depending on how strong the inspiration is. Some stories don’t go according the outline I initially write. When I run an idea by my husband, he usually chimes in with what he think will or won’t work.

LaToya: How do you think you’ve evolved creatively?
Taneisha: That’s a great question, I have changed where I used to write solely from a place of hurt to writing because I love writing. It doesn’t take getting hurt for me to find inspiration like it did in the past. I hardly ever wrote happy stories or poems which can be seen in both of my published books.

LaToya: What is the hardest thing about writing?
Taneisha: The hardest thing for me is making time to sit at my computer away from my phone. I will write and brainstorm on my phone or in notebooks and go from idea to idea. So now to overcome this challenge I force myself to sit at a computer and type. I had to get rid of my excuses, especially since I sit at a computer all day at work.

LaToya: What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?
Taneisha: The last thing I completed was a stage play, I’m still working on my books. The hardest thing though was finding how to end it. I literally took a break from working on it for a year while I edited my first novel to republish it.

LaToya: What is the easiest thing about writing?
Taneisha: The easiest thing about writing is the beginning and the end. The middle is where I usually get stuck.

LaToya: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Taneisha: Well my first novel took me about six months. However, it was poorly written and had a plethora of grammatical errors now that I look back at it five years later. Since I haven’t completed a book since, I can’t really say. We can go with a year for now. I’m sure it’ll be shorter once I finish school and use my extra time to focus on writing outside of family time.

LaToya: Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Taneisha: In 5 years I would like to be in the process of filming either a stage play or a book. I’ll have a minimum of 3 published novels and working on more.

LaToya: What advice would you give to your younger self?
Taneisha: Don’t put off what you can do today for a later time. Never stop dreaming and don’t give up. Push harder and write as much as you can but also enjoy life.

LaToya: Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
Taneisha: That’s a tough one because it’s only one. (lol) I’d have to go with Brenda Jackson. I would want to pick her brain on how she wrote so many romance novels and continues to find inspiration on her characters and keep them in the same family? How does she find inspiration for new characters without using the same storyline?

LaToya: If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
Taneisha: None, I know that every writer has their own voice. I want readers to know mine and get to know me.

LaToya: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Taneisha: Rejection is okay. Your writing isn’t for everyone. Know that this okay and keep writing. If you choose to self-publish find a good editor that will be able to work with you and keep your story in your voice, not the book they want you to publish or wish they could’ve written. Find your voice and write.

Just One Touch Te Russ

Just One Touch Excerpt:

"Where is he?" Ethan asked, through clenched teeth, glaring at Savannah.
That was when she finally took a good look at his face. He was pissed. She turned to Drew. She didn't even have to ask. Drew nodded, turned and headed upstairs.
"How did you even know I was here?" she asked Ethan.
"Does it matter, Savvy?" Ethan asked, stepping in the house. "Or did you come, hoping for some reason I wouldn't be here so I wouldn't see my son."
He paced the living room, before turning to face Savannah. "EJ?" There was a pained expression on his face. "Ethan James. You name my son after me, yet you keep him from me? How could you do that to me?"
"How could I..." Savannah's temper spiked. "You've got some nerve, coming in here stomping around saying I'm keeping my son away from you, when you've ignored us for the last six years."
"Ignored you?" Ethan repeated. "What are you talking about? How could I ignore something...someone I never even knew existed?"
Savannah looked at him confused. "I wrote you!" she shouted. "You were the one who left without saying goodbye...without giving me your home address. So I sent the letters to your house here. I sent letters all through my pregnancy and then after EJ was born. I even sent pictures."
"What?" Ethan whispered.
"I knew there was a chance that it would take a while for you to get them. Especially with you going off to college. But I knew you always came here for the summers like we did, so I figured you'd eventually get them and when you did...you would find me. But you didn't...so I thought..." She looked away from Ethan. "I thought you didn't want us...him."
Ethan shook his head. "This is the first time I've been back since that summer," he told her. "I...I never got any letters."
Her head snapped back in his direction.
"You...what?"
"I never got the letters, Savvy," he repeated. "I never knew I had a son."
That one fact changed everything, Savannah thought, suddenly she felt dizzy.
"Savvy?" Ethan said, reaching out to her. And with just one touch from him, all of the feelings she'd had for him as a young girl came flooding back with full force.
"I need to sit down."
Ethan helped her over to the couch and sat down with her. After a moment, she looked up at him, with tears in her eyes.
"You didn't know..." she whispered.
"No," Ethan said, his voice trembling slightly.
"Oh my god, Ethan. I'm so sorry. I thought...all this time..." She looked up at him. "You've missed so much...I can't believe this."
He squeezed her hand. "Where is he, Savvy?" Ethan asked, his voice sounding so raw.
She wiped her tears away with the back of her hand. "He's upstairs. He's sleeping...but come on." She stood and took his hand and then led him upstairs and opened up the door to Ethan's room. The room was dark, but the window curtains were pushed open and the moon was streaming through.
Savannah stood in the doorway and watched as Ethan slowly walked over to the bed. Her heart ached as she watched him fall to his knees, staring at his son in complete awe. He just kneeled there for several minutes watching the young boy sleep with his lips parted slightly, his light snores filling the air.
Finally, reached out and lightly brushed his fingers across the waves of EJ's hair and bent over, pressing his lips to the boys forehead. EJ stirred slightly, and rolled over, putting his back to face them.
Ethan stood and turned to Savannah, his cheeks stained with tears. She took a step out into the hallway as Ethan came out of the room and gently closed the door.
"He's beautiful, Savvy."
Savannah couldn't speak over the lump in her throat so she simply nodded.
"It seems we have a lot to discuss."
Savannah nodded again. That seemed to be an understatement.
"I'm coming..." He stopped and changed his wording. "Would it be okay...if I came back tomorrow? During the day. I'd like to really meet him."
"Of course," Savannah said, as she reached out and grabbed his arm reassuringly.
"Thanks," he said, looking down at her hand. She quickly pulled her hand away and took a step back.
Ethan looked as drained as she now felt. They headed back downstairs and to the front door.
"I'll be by tomorrow," Ethan said, after he'd stepped out onto the porch.
"Okay," Savannah said.
"Goodnight Savvy."
"Ethan!"
He turned back to face her.
"If I'd known...that you didn't know. I would have tried harder to reach out to you. It's never been my intent to keep him from you."
Ethan stared at her for several moments before finally nodding to acknowledge her words. "I'll see you tomorrow," he said, before getting into his car.
Once he drove off, Savannah shut the front door, then turned around to lean on it. Her eyes drifted shut and her head head hit the door with a thud as she blew out a shaky breath.

Author Interview with Teresa Seals

LaToya: What are your ambitions for your writing career?
Teresa: My ambitions for my writing career is to inspire and live comfortable while doing it. I would like to be able to write on a full-time basis instead of part-time. I also I have dreams to evolve to the big screen with a message that will change the views of our/the future youth.

LaToya: Which writers inspire you?
Teresa: Zora Neale Hurston and Alice Walker are just a few writers that inspire me.

LaToya: What are you working on at the minute?
Teresa: I am working out two projects. I have a novel that I released in 2008 with another company titled Simply Taylor Made. I want to re-release under my own company. I am also working on a new novel called The Young and the Reckless.

LaToya: What genre are your books and why?
Teresa: I consider my writing in the genre of realistic fiction. Others may consider it urban. I writing in this genre because I’m familiar with what takes place in this art form.

LaToya: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
Teresa: In my most recent book I would like to see Lauren London as the lead character.

LaToya: When did you decide to become a writer?
Teresa: In 2002 my cousin was raped and murdered at the age of 15. When I was 15 I can say I put myself in near death experiences from the friends I had and the places I visited. I had begun to write several types and stopped because I had no idea of how I would get published. By 2005, I had researched publishing and released my first book in 2006.

LaToya: Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
Teresa: No, I don’t have a special time to write. I have a notebook that I write my ideas down and then I transfer them to the computer.

Teresa: I sometimes try to set goals but I don’t meet them. I just listen to music and write until I get tired.

LaToya: Where do your ideas come from?
Teresa: I get my ideas from actual events, listening to the conversations in my classroom and things I notice while I’m out and about. Sometime my imagination and thoughts just run wild and I go from there.

LaToya: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
Teresa: I start with a plot and build from there. The Young and the Reckless is the first time I have actually formed an outline.

LaToya: What is the hardest thing about writing?
Teresa: The hardest thing about writing for me is being consistent and persistent with marketing. I need ways to get my books in front of more people. I am working and developing a plan.

LaToya: What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?
Teresa: My latest book was inspired by true events and had to change so many things so if someone actually read the book would know it was a story and only sounds similar to a particular situation.

LaToya: What is the easiest thing about writing?
Teresa: This was not easy to me at all.

LaToya: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Teresa:  It may take me 6-12 months. Because I always think of how I can improve the story line.
LaToya: Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Teresa: I set goals to obtain/achieve and I haven’t really thought about it that far, but I do see myself being dedicated to my dreams.

LaToya: What advice would you give to your younger self?
Teresa: I would tell my younger self to have fun and love yourself. Loving yourself first can avoid lots of heartache and wasted time.

LaToya: Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
Teresa: I would like to meet Bill Cosby. He has seem to have a perfect image up until it’s though he has one foot in his grave. I would like to know the truth about his ordeal or who he actually pissed off. Why? I don’t want to make the same mistake. I don’t want know blemishes on my name.

LaToya: If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
Teresa: I would have liked to be the original author of the Color Purple. The financial outlook on that book. That book was released in 1982 and a movie was made in 1985. For at least 34 years that book has been on the scene. From Broadway to probably the most quoted lines, you can say that is one unforgettable book.

LaToya: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Teresa: Be consistent and persistent and stay away from the clicks.
