Author Interview with Jamesina Greene

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Jamesina Greene Author of A Mother's Cry

My name is Jamesina Greene. I'm named after my father, James (smile.)  I was raised in a very strict Christian home and often writing was my only was to express myself.

LaToya: What are your ambitions for your writing career?
Jamesina: My ambitions for my writing is not so much to make it my whole career. I know that writing plays an intricate part in what I do, but I believe that speaking engagements and personal interaction with others is just as important as my writing.

LaToya: Which writers inspire you?
Jamesina: I am inspired by a variety of Writers. I have loved to read books since I learned the power of the written word. I just finished a book about a Russian mother who lived most of her adult life without her family knowing her true identity. That book touched my soul. Diversity in writing is what inspires me.

LaToya: What are you working on at the minute?
Jamesina: Currently, I am working on three Literary projects. I am writing my first Children's Book; my first Novel and my first Daily Devotional Book.

LaToya: What genre are your books and why?
Jamesina: The books that I have published at this time are Non-Fiction. I used these to give readers brief insights into my heart and spirit.

LaToya: In 10 words or less can you create a quote that describes you and your writing?
Jamesina: In 10 words or less, the quote that describes me and. my writing is: "Live it. Feel it.  Write it."

LaToya: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
Jamesina: As none of my currently published are Fiction, I can't picture an Actress in them. However, the Novel that I'm working on, I can envision Debbi Morgan as my main character.

LaToya: When did you decide to become a writer?
Jamesina: I don't know if there is a distinct time when I decided to become a Writer. As far back as I can remember, I have written. I've written songs, plays, manuals and books. Writing is what I do most days.

LaToya: Do you write full-time or part-time?
Jamesina: Due to medical complications, I am currently writing part-time. As much as I feel up to, I'm always writing something.

LaToya: Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
Jamesina: As far as a writing routine, I don't really have one. I generally write as I am inspired to do so. When an idea comes to me, I begin an Outline and proceed from there.

LaToya: Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?
Jamesina: No, I don't aim for a daily word count. I write until I do not feel like writing anymore that day.

LaToya: Where do your ideas come from?
Jamesina: The ideas for my books come from my life experiences. I also get ideas from observing the experiences of others. I have always been known for studying people and human behavior. That makes for great book material (smile).

LaToya: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
Jamesina: I definitely use an Outline when I write. My thoughts jump all over the place if I don't. An Outline helps me to maintain a degree of focus.

LaToya: How do you think you’ve evolved creatively?
Jamesina: I think that I have evolved creatively in that I'm much more open to the reality of life. Earlier in my writing, I felt I needed to limit my writing to what people in my circle would accept from me. I don't feel that way anymore. Some of the story ideas I'm working on, are going to be shockers.

LaToya: What is the hardest thing about writing?
Jamesina: The hardest thing about writing, for me, is staying focused on one story. As I've said before, my brain seems to stay in overload.  I even wake up during the night and jot down story ideas. Seriously.

LaToya: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Jamesina: I don't really have an average length of time to write a book. Maybe as I continue with my healing and recovery, that will change.

LaToya: Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Jamesina: In five years, I see myself operating my organization, "A Mother's Cry", nationwide; operating my other organization, "Destne Enterprises", through which all of my literary works will be published.

LaToya: What advice would you give to your younger self?
Jamesina: The advice that I would give my younger self is to not allow other people's hatred for you to cause you to hate yourself.

LaToya: Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
Jamesina: The famous person that I would like to meet, is Debbi Morgan.  My ninth grade Math teacher used to tell me that I looked like her and that made me feel pretty.  After reading her Memoir, I would absolutely love to meet her. I feel a spiritual connection with her.

LaToya: If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
Jamesina: If I could have been the original Author of a book, it would have been, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings", by Maya Angelou.  I relate to many of the experiences shared in that book and even, for a period of time, I wouldn't speak because I felt my voice was unimportant and useless.

LaToya: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Jamesina: The main piece of advice I could give to aspiring Writers, is to maintain their individuality in their writing. Learn from others, but always show the uniqueness of you.

Book Spotlight: Tempted to Touch by Nigeria Lockley

I just wanted to write this story that was in my head. A passion project. At least that was what I thought. About a month after I started writing Tempted… I kept hearing the protagonist’s voice directly—like she wanted to tell the story herself. But I didn’t want her to. I found myself fighting with the first person.

I share just about everything I do. I’m a reality t.v. star without a show. However, I do have a blog. When I found myself at a writing halt I voiced my struggle my blog, The Neophyte Author and tried to run away from the first person narrator even after my sister-author-friend, Unoma Nwankwor told me I could do it. The running stopped once I received a phone call from the one and only Michelle Stimpson—author, educator, and my unofficial mentor (I dubbed her my mentor in head, but that’s another story). She’s written over twenty books and more than half of them are in first person. Michelle was kind enough to walk me through her decision to write her first novel, Boaz Brown in first person. It was very natural and easy for her during that instance because she and the protagonist of Boaz Brown shared a lot of the same issues.

Instantly I knew why I no longer had a passion for my passion project. Kira was me and I was Kira. Married and in trouble. When I began Tempted to Touch my husband and I were in this awful and icky place that is usually filled with cussing and drink throwing on reality t.v. Since I’m Christian it was filled with a lot of “Satan I rebuke you” and “The devil is a liar”. I realized then that I would be writing my unhappiness. That wasn’t something I felt comfortable with at the same time I knew that Tempted to Touch was a story that needed to be told. Of course, to keep things on the up and up between my husband and I embellished a bit and gave the characters issues to fight about that were slightly different from ours. Regardless of the changes, I believe that I’ve found healing in certain areas of my marriage and I know that God will use this story to help other women find some healing in their marriage.

The Pursuit of True Love
By Lisa
I think about you and I blush
I look at you and my eyes light up
I hear your voice and I get chills
I feel your touch and I melt
I inhale your fragrance and I get weak
I taste you and I get excited
You’re the one thing in my life that’s completely right
You interrupt my thoughts throughout the day
And I smile just knowing you are mine
You’re my constant in a world full of variables
I never get tired of waking up to your face
I look forward to falling asleep in your arms
I don’t remember life before you
And I can’t imagine life without you
That’s why my heart will never give up pursuing you, true love

What is Love?
By Amanda
Love is a feeling I long to express,
To give unconditionally without regrets.
Love is sharing, love is me, love is giving unselfishly.
What is love when it’s not pure & genuine?
It’s me loving you when I don’t feel it in my heart.
I can’t live a life of lies.
My love is gone,
My heart valves and chambers fill & pump blood,
But no emotion of love for the man with whom I vowed to be one.
What is love?
Is it me wanting to love & you loving me?
Or is it us wanting to love self,
So we can learn to love others
In spite of how we feel?
I love me too much to deal with this hurt & pain
So I’ll start by healing myself
And give my love to the one who’s always loved me.
Let me be me, a woman of love
So my light can shine for others to see.
What is love?
Love is me when I’m set free,
Free in my heart, mind, body & spirit.
I am love.
I want to love and be loved.

Love Letter
By LaTerra
Dear Heart,
If only you could look upon yourself
And see the reflection of God in you
Instead of the scowl that has become permanently affixed upon your face.
Maybe you would know that the walls you’ve built have become your prison
Allowing you to only see darkness.
You have dimmed the light that lives within
Allowing no life to flourish.
You’ve allowed your talents to lay dormant,
Hidden the purpose that you were born to fulfill
In order to fit in with those undeserving of your time.
Settling for a semblance of friendship,
You have carried travelers on your journey that should have been left at the start.
You’ve convinced yourself that you are unworthy of love.
Letting others tear you down,
You’ve accepted broken pieces of broken people
Thinking they will complete your puzzle
Not realizing that which is forced to fit won’t last
Nor understanding that no one else can make you whole.
You were made bold for a reason,
Embrace it.
Harness the anger, disappointment, and pain of your past.
Use that energy to create change
And become the difference the world needs to see.
My dear,
It is time for you to arise triumphant,
Claiming victory over darkness.
It is time for you to take your proper place,
At the head of your life.
Generations are waiting for you to take your rightful place
So they know it’s ok to stand.

Love is one of the most consumed terms in the human language. It’s probably the most wrongly used word, but the word that is most necessary when used correctly. With an inaccurate definition of love we find ourselves searching for something to fulfill us, but in all of our searching we miss it. We miss it because unfortunately we don’t recognize that we are already perfectly loved. The problem is not the overuse of the word love. If it were up to God, we would use it at all times. The problem is, we say the word but don’t do any of the actions that come with its meaning. The problem is that we don’t know what God wanted it to mean, because we don’t give God the credit for the most amazing thing He ever created—LOVE!

Perfectly Loved will bring us back to the understanding of love from the creator and embodiment of love Himself. Each chapter includes “Think About It” questions and a study verse that are perfect for individual study, Bible Study, and small group lessons. As you explore how God loves you, you will also build love in your relationships with other people, and God. When you discover “perfect love” you will be able to relinquish your fears, push through your adversity, and serve others with love.
